NETG Reflection
As this semester begins we started off by working on the first NETG which is an 8hr long assessment online, which is an introduction to Access. Before I started the tutorial I had doubts that I will be able to understand the feature of access and how things work. I believe I had that thought is mind because it has been a long time since I used access in my studies; I always prefer not to use it. As a beginner it seemed very complicated to use it but when I kept practicing on it I started to get the hang of it. Even though Access seems very difficult at the beginning but I have really benefited from this tutorial.
I started by going throw the tutorial and taking note while having Microsoft Access open to help me go throw it step by step. When I was sure I fully understand the steps I started the first assessment which was Table basic. Table basic talks about methods of managing data in a datasheet view which is mainly about inserting, editing, and saving records in a table. To be entirely honest I spent a lot of time on my first attempt, because I was confused a bit. However, by the third try I managed pretty well.
By the time I got to the second assessment I was well prepared to complete the task. When thinking about table you will never think it would be that complicated. But when I begun Manipulating Tables I learned many skills such as entering data into fields and filtering and sorting throw the field. In addition, I was able to move throw the labels by clicking next, last, and pervious button. Filtering base records was very useful where I learned to find name faster, which saved me a lot of time while I was working on my access project. However the process to filtering wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
Final assessment was about Querying Data. I started off by finding query such as name, summary function, and also fields to display. After that I learned how to crosstab throw query by selecting row headings and column headings. This assessment quizzed me on table, show, criteria elements. I mostly enjoyed the calculator field components which at start I wasn’t able to work with, but I kept on practicing till I was able use the mathematical operators.
As I conclude, I never thought that I will be able to understand the fundamentals of Access properly in this short time period. I always imaged that I will take me months to create a table and work with it. Know when I am starting to work on my access project I realized how important the tutorial was, it helped me in getting ahead and understanding what I am working with. It saved me a lot of time when starting the project. Finally that is a lesson to never under estimate yourself and your abilities.
